When to Feed Your Cat
Our cats, especially those that live indoors only, are usually fed a relatively large volume of food once or twice daily. This is how it’s always been done, but is it the healthiest way/when to feed your cat? New research suggests… the answer is no.
Cats have a strong, primal instinct to hunt. Feral cats prefer to eat alone and will feast on multiple small meals throughout the day. These meals only occur after successfully hunting their food. New insight into cat behavior suggests we may be causing behavioral problems in our cats due to the way we feed them. Cats may actually “need” the thrill of the hunt to keep them happy and healthy.
If you have a bored, overweight, or stressed cat try using puzzle feeders, or even hiding kibbles around the house to increase activity and provide mental
and physical stimulation.
The “How to Feed a Cat” brochure from the American Association of Feline Practitioners is an excellent source for more information on the topic.

We hope this encourages you to find ways to feed your cats in a more natural and enriching manner. It will keep them healthier and happier, which is what everyone wants for their favorite feline friend.
