AAHA Accreditation

When Drs. Strine and Andrews started Longwood Veterinary Center 26 years ago, they were committed to providing compassionate and quality veterinary care by utilizing the highest standards in veterinary medicine to uphold that commitment. To meet that goal, they decided seeking AAHA accreditation was the best step forward.

What is AAHA?

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has a long history, dating back to the early 1930s. Initially, the association sought to lobby for standards of care in companion animal medicine that would best serve the pet and owner. This dramatically improved the overall level of veterinary care pets received at the time. To this day, AAHA continues to champion advanced standards that embrace the most modern care available to our companion animals.

Accreditation through AAHA is completely voluntary and available to veterinary practices in the US and Canada. Meeting the stringent requirements for accreditation is difficult. In fact, only 15% of North American companion animal practices are AAHA-accredited. To receive accreditation, animal hospitals go through rigorous evaluation of every aspect of veterinary care including preventative medicine, pain management, surgical standards, hospital facilities and more. On-site evaluations, performed every 3 years, monitor adherence to over 900 standards. We are proud to say that Longwood Veterinary Center has met or exceeded these standards for renewal without interruption for the past 25 years.

Why is this important to you and your pet?

Keeping abreast of modern veterinary standards is crucial to improving medical and surgical outcomes for pets suffering from illness, improving their quality of life and preventing disease. Receiving AAHA accreditation signifies that a veterinary practice’s commitment to patient care will evolve as a result of the newest research and guidelines as they become available to the veterinary community. Accreditation also ensures that a practice maintains facilities and equipment allowing veterinarians to provide this higher level of care. In a nutshell, AAHA accreditation is a big deal! We are proud of this accomplishment and confident we are doing the best we can to keep your pets as happy and healthy as possible.
