Claire is a 10- month old spayed female special needs puppy looking for the perfect forever home. She was found in September, wandering in a park, lonely and cold. Initially she was very ill and diagnosed with pneumonia as a result of a congenital condition called megaesophagus. Megaesophagus is a general dilatation of the esophagus that makes it difficult for animals to eat. Food and liquid have difficulty getting into the stomach through the dilated esophagus. Regurgitation is a common sign, and aspiration pneumonia often occurs if food or liquid accidentally enters the lungs.
Since the moment she entered our lives, we all fell in love with Claire. Despite being sick, she was sweet, patient, and just plain adorable. Due to her incredible personality and perseverance, the owners of Longwood Veterinary Center, Dr. Carla Andrews and Dr. Laurie Strine, decided to attempt to manage her condition and find her a forever home. She requires smaller more frequent meals, and to sit up after eating in a “Bailey Chair” for 30 minutes. She is not on long term medications, but will need to be monitored for further regurgitation/ aspiration. Claire is completely up to date on her vaccinations, was spayed and microchipped, and dewormed. A “Bailey Chair” was purchased and will be included in her adoption fee of $150.00. We hope you find it in your heart to consider her adoption. Serious inquiries, please contact the staff of Longwood Veterinary Center for further questions and to set up a visit to meet sweet Claire.
